60 Years of Mandic Shoes – And Our Ugg Boots Are Where We’ll Start
After more than 60 years in the footwear business, we’ve made the decision to retire and gradually wind down Mandic Shoes.
It’s not happening overnight. We still have plenty of shoes and boots to sell, and over the coming months I’d like to share a little more about our history, some of the footwear we’ve made and sold, and the story behind a family business that has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
But with winter still here, it seems fitting to start with our Ugg boots.
Mandic Shoes began with my father, Bozo Mandic – or Bill, as most people knew him.
Dad arrived in Australia from Croatia in 1958. Like so many migrants of his generation, he came here to build a new life and worked incredibly hard to do it.
He started making shoes in our family garage in Leichhardt, Sydney. From there the business grew, eventually moving to a factory in Marrickville and later to Minto in Sydney’s Macarthur region.
I grew up with the business. Working afternoons and Saturdays in the factory and shop was simply part of our family life. I don’t think I appreciated then what Dad was building, or that more than 60 years later we’d still be here selling footwear with the Mandic name on it.

Ugg Boots Have Been Part of Our Story for a Long Time
Dad was making Ugg boots back in the 1960s.
This was well before they became the international fashion item they are today. They were simply warm, comfortable and practical Australian sheepskin boots.
Over the years, we’ve continued that tradition with our Scrub Ugg boots and slippers, made here in Sydney using Australian sheepskin.
So, as we start winding down the business, this is where we’re starting.
Our Winter Ugg Boot Sale
We’re clearing our remaining Scrub Ugg boots and slippers, and there are some great savings to be had.
Because we’re winding down, once particular sizes and styles sell out, we won’t be replacing them.
So if your old Ugg boots are looking a little worse for wear, or you’ve been thinking about buying a new pair, have a look while we still have a good selection of sizes available.
And perhaps grab a pair for next winter while you’re at it.

There Are Still More Chapters to Come
This isn’t quite goodbye yet.
We still have our Macarthur boots, Frisky boots and other footwear to sell, and I’ll be sharing more about those over the coming months.
I’d also like to tell you a little more about Dad, the history of Mandic Shoes and what it was like growing up in an Australian footwear manufacturing family.
There are more than 60 years of stories behind this business, so I think they’re worth sharing before we finally close the doors.
For now, though, we’re starting with the Ugg boots.
Thank you, as always, for supporting Mandic Shoes and our family business.
